Movie Review: Step into the City of Stars in “La La Land”

Wednesday, January 11, 2017

An impressive cinematic portrayal of one of the bittersweet love story in the City of Stars. “La La Land” merges the fantasy of the glitz of Hollywood and the dreamers chasing their dreams. We love how the songs and dance numbers are incorporated in the whole film. The sincerity of the gaze between the Mia and Sebastian in every scene just melts your heart away.

“La La Land” starring Emma Stone (Mia) and Ryan Gosling (Sebastian) brings the audience to classic Hollywood on an exuberant song-and-dance journey through a life-changing love affair between a jazz pianist and a hopeful actress.

We love how the unexpected scenes turns into a musicale, and it just blends harmoniously to the next scenes. The music just goes with you even after leaving the theatre. There is a healthy mix of drama, love story and conflict. There is also the lavish way of making you remember that you are watching a film through surreal moments.

"La La Land" is not so of a musical movie such as "Chicago" and "Moulin Rouge" if you are looking or expecting of it but the main selling points of this film are the story, #RyanGosling, and #EmmaStone really. As we watched the film, we were expecting a loud and artsy fartsy musical, but no, the movie is just as smooth, subtle, ans exciting as listening to the film's jazz music offering. The storytelling is great and no, it was not set in the 1940's as well.

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone not just have good screen chemistry, they look good together! Emma Stone's song is very touching. She's good there among other scenes. Ryan Gosling is man of art. He does everything good, professionally, and with magic! A 9/10 movie experience!

Wearing its influences on its sleeve yet taking considerable risks, La La Land allows filmmaker Chazelle to pay homage to legends of cinema while harnessing its current power to make the most private human terrain – the territory of intimate relationships, personal dreams and the crossroads where decisions set fate into motion – come to life on the screen as a palpably real, yet enchanted, universe.
