Movie Review: "In the Heart of the Sea"

“In the Heart of the Sea” is a fantastic voyage into the vivid memoirs of how the myth of "Moby Dick" was given birth by an extraordinary adventure. The sound and visual effects, and the performance of the whole cast are brilliant. Watching the film in Imax 3D, is like being submerged in the storm, the waves, and the rush of the scenes of this cinematic masterpiece.

The film would remind you of the wonderful visual effects of "Life of Pi" and the over-all period feel of "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter."  The film gives the viewers a time-travel ticket back to the time when whale oil was one of the most valued energy source. I love how the movie starts with an exciting opening salvo underwater, and continuously retains the interest of viewers in every scene. “In the Heart of the Sea” reminds us of the foolishness of humans who believe that they own everything in this world. It shows the arrogance of some individuals challenging nature and her majestic creatures.

“In the Heart of the Sea” offers a healthy mix of drama, action, and humor. I highly recommend that you watch this in 3D or Imax for a satisfying and memorable viewing experience.

In the winter of 1820, the Essex was assaulted by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will, and an almost human sense of vengeance.  The real-life maritime disaster would inspire Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick. But that told only half the story.

“In the Heart of the Sea” reveals the encounter’s harrowing aftermath, as the ship’s surviving crew is pushed to their limits and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive.  Braving storms, starvation, panic and despair, the men will call into question their deepest beliefs, from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade, as their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first mate still seeks to bring the great whale down.
